Data Assessment & GIS Plan
The City of Victoria engaged Pacific Alliance Technologies to conduct a Data Assessment for the implementation of a Geographic Information System (GIS) with an emphasis on Asset Management. This process involved interviewing City staff to gain an understanding of the key requirements, systems and data held within the City. Further analysis on this inventory of information was used to develop an implementation plan that supports the City's immediate and future goals. This implementation plan is now the basis for a long term strategy within the City.
Hosted External MapGuide GIS and Internal GIS Implementation
Pacific Alliance was chosen over a number of competitors by Delta to outsource the design, development, management, hosting and support of their MapGuide site in 2004. Publishing data from Oracle Spatial, this site provides the functionality required by the City's constituents and stakeholders. The corporation then contracted Pacific Alliance to enhance their Intranet MapGuide site and implement comprehensive tools to enhance their as-built water/wastewater infrastructure into Autodesk Map. Pacific Alliance continues to work with the City on a number of projects, upgrading and enhancing the current business systems. Most recently Pacific Alliance implemented a system that allows the public to make service requests through their web-mapping system. iVAULT Empowered

CHALLENGES: RDKS needed to provide accurate address data to 9-1-1 emergency dispatchers, meeting their data specifications. Some communities had address databases; others relied on outdated physical maps. Address databases were in various formats. Some personal telephone numbers and many rural areas lacked civic addresses. RDKS needed a distance-based addressing system to fix this. They needed to standardize address data, assign street addresses to missing properties and deliver a system for easy updating by the various communities. SOLUTION: Using Pacific Alliance's own iVAULT Edit on MapGuide Open Source, Pacific Alliance delivered a webbased solution for address editing and a process to automatically meet three sets of address standards used by the emergency response organizations.
